Becoming My Own Hair Goals

This will be the start of the documentation for my HEALTHY HAIR CARE journey! For so long, I’ve said that I’ll start wearing my real hair once I reach this length or if my hair gets styled this way and I had to realize I wasn’t taking any steps in the right direction to help me achieve those goals.

It hit me like a ton of bricks when I read on Instagram that “women will take better care of their extensions/weaves than they do their real hair.” I am guilty as charged. I don’t care for my hair like I should under my wigs and that all changes TODAY!!!

I’ve tried doing the natural hair thing and that just wasn’t for me. I think we all our own paths and you’ll learn which one is yours. With me relaxing my hair I have to learn how to make sure my hair remains healthy.

I stumbled upon Hairlicious on Youtube when trying to find great hair care tips for relaxed hair so I’m going to start by following some of her recommendations.

Over the course of 3 months I will do the following steps and see what type of results I can achieve.

Helpful Information:

I’m 3 months postpartum.

Currently taking my prenatal vitamins and coconut oil capsules.

Last Relaxer & Trim: April 18, 2019

Step 1: Identify my hair care needs/goals

Deep condition 20-30 minutes 1x a week (w/ add ons)

Apply Leave-in and detangle

I’m excited and nervous but I know it will all be worth it in the end. I will do a 1 month update on or around May 18th to do a check in and then I’ll do my final check in around July 18th to conclude my 3 month reboot and length check.

Classic Style // White and Denim

IMG_4808.jpg

I love simple looks! Having style or being fashionable should not be hard or break the bank. I am the queen of a good sale! I love finding staple pieces to enhance my wardrobe. One of my favorite things are a great pair of jeans!

Freelynat WhiteDenim

I haven’t shopped at Ashley Stewart in a long time and I forgot just how great their clothes were. I found these super cute jeans on sale for $19.99, major steal and this top from New York and Company for under $20. I pulled the look together with a pair of block sandals and there you have it!

This look will always remain timeless, you can swap out the distressed jeans for a different look.

Bold Prints for Spring

Dress provided by PinkBlush - all opinions are my own!

Ladies!!!! Spring is here and summer isn’t far behind, so you know what that means? MAXI DRESS season! I can’t wait. I live in maxi dresses this time of year. They are perfect for work,  date night, or brunch with your girls.

FreelyNat Bold Print

To kick off this season in style, I’ve partnered with PinkBlush to bring you this look!

This dress is bold and beautiful. I would have never thought to mix these two colors together but honey, it works! The dress is more of a pale blue than mint as it’s called on their website. It’s stretchy but a little sheer. It doesn’t cling so that’s always a plus! The dress has an open neckline giving you the option to play with it. You can wear it off the shoulders, pulled up (if you don’t want so much shoulder exposed), or rock it one sided like I’ve chosen to do.

Since the print is so bold, I stayed away from overly doing it with accessories. I wanted the focus to be on my dress.  I’m wearing a XL but could have easily worn a large due to the material of the dress. I’m a 14/16 on a good day and carry the majority of my weight in my belly (which can be hidden nicely).

If this print is too bold for you, try out some of their other pieces here.

They also have a great maternity section, thank me later!

Baby Blue Hues

IMG_4591.jpg

I would live in black if I could but I know sometimes I have to spice it up and add a little color to my life! I came across this cute little number online and decided to go for it. It’s totally my style – when I decide to put on clothes and it’s perfect for spring. This color blue will compliment most skin tones and the ruffle sleeves add a stylish flare!

If you don’t know, I love to wear my legs out. They are my best accessory outside of my smile! I’m not a big booty Judy, but sis can serve some legs!

IMG_4574.jpg

For reference, I’m 5’6 and 210lbs and this dress hits me mid-thigh. So if you aren’t comfortable with that I’d skip on this one. It has minimal stretch so pay attention to the sizing when ordering.

This dress will be on repeat for the remainder of spring and summer! I paired this dress with a pair of sandals but I would wear a pair of sneakers with it to give it a different feel.

The best part is this look is under $50!!! We are saving coins, sis!!
