The Birth of Air Max:

The Air Max story began in 1987 when Nike designer Tinker Hatfield introduced the Air Max 1, the first sneaker to feature a visible Air unit in the heel. This groundbreaking design provided superior cushioning and became a fashion statement, capturing the hearts of sneaker enthusiasts worldwide.

Evolution of Air Max:

Over the years, Nike has continued to push the boundaries of Air Max technology, introducing new and improved cushioning systems. Notable models include the Air Max 90, Air Max 95,  Air Max 97, Air Max 270, and the latest addition, the Air Max 2021. Each model has its unique design and cushioning features, catering to different preferences and activities.

Air Max Today:

Today, Air Max is more than just a sneaker; it's a cultural phenomenon. Air Max Day has become an annual event celebrated by sneakerheads and fashion enthusiasts alike. Nike collaborates with artists, athletes, and influencers to create limited-edition Air Max releases and exclusive experiences.

This year, Nike decided to go a new route for Air Max Day by releasing an original colorway of the Air Max 1 that featured a volt pop in the midsole with the date “3.26” inscribed on the tongue. The Nike Air Max Dn All Night colorway, and additional colorways, will be released across Nike.com and Nike retail in adult (mens, women's) and youth sizes on March 26 as part of Air Max Week 2024. Nike Air Max Dn All Day colorway will launch via SNKRS and select retailers in adult sizes. -  via Nike.com

2024 Spring Sneaker Trends for Women

adidas Grand Court Alpha Sneaker

Spring is one of my favorite times of the year, plus it’s the season for new beginnings, and that includes updating your wardrobe with fresh footwear. I have been obsessed with sneakers lately, and I want to share a few of my top picks for the season. Sneakers are the must-have shoe for women, offering both style and comfort.

Here are some of the most popular sneaker trends for spring:

1. Chunky Sneakers:

  • Chunky sneakers have been a popular trend for a few seasons now, and they're still going strong for spring. These sneakers are characterized by their thick soles and exaggerated silhouettes – think “Dad Shoes.” They're a great way to add a touch of streetwear edge to your look. While I haven’t given into this trend, I’ve seen several styles that I'm interested in trying.

Several brands have made these styles staples for many, New Balance is a top contender for their popular styles: New Balance 530, New Balance 9060, and New Balance 990v6.

Nike also has several chunky styles to match your look: Nike Zoom Vomero 5, Nike Air Monarch IV, and Nike M2K Tekno.

2. Pastel Sneakers:

  • Pastel sneakers are a great way to add a pop of color to your spring wardrobe. These sneakers come in a variety of shades, from soft pink and blue to bright yellow and green. They're perfect for pairing with sundresses and skirts.

Adidas has come out with a variety of vision court sneakers in beautiful colors: yellow/mustard, hot pink, and aqua.

3. Platform Sneakers:

  • Platform sneakers are another great option for women who want to add a little height to their look. These sneakers feature a thick platform sole that can give you a few extra inches. They're perfect for pairing with jeans and shorts.

The Converse Chuck Taylor All Star Move High-Top Sneaker are a very fun shoe that comes in several colors making it so versatile.  Light Pink, Thunder Daze Blue, Dreamy Dahlia Mauve, Sticky Aloe Green.

Puma Carina Street Platform Sneakers are super cute and incredibly comfortable. I own several pairs and I can walk in them all day. Colors: Baby Blue/White, Lavender/White, and Pink/White/Blue.

New Balance Dynasoft Nergize Sport v2 Sneaker

4. Slip-On Sneakers:

  • Slip-on sneakers are a great option for women who are on the go. These sneakers are easy to wear and can be dressed up or down. They're perfect for running errands, going to the gym, or just hanging out with friends.

My favorites are the  Vans Asher Deluxe Slip-On (available in Pink, Black and White/Leopard and Off White/Black Cheetah.) New Balance Dynasoft Nergize Sport V2 and the Ryka Echo Sky Sneaker.

Nike Dunk Low Retro

5. Retro Sneakers:

  • Retro sneakers are a great way to add a touch of nostalgia to your look. These sneakers are inspired by classic styles from the 1970s, 1980s, and 1990s. They're perfect for pairing with vintage clothing or modern streetwear. Growing up in the 90’s we loved a pair of Classic Leather Low Top Reeboks, Air Jordan V and New Balance 5.

Today, when I think of retro sneakers, I’m reaching for a pair of  Air Force 1, Adidas Samba, or Old Skool Vans.

Honorable mentions: Nike Dunk Lows, Jordan 1 Mid, and Air Max 90.
