Everything You Need To Know About Subdermal Fat And Beauty

The word “subdermal fat” doesn’t get much air time in beauty communities, but it can make a fantastic difference to your appearance. Boosting the amount of subdermal fat you have and improving its distribution has a tremendous impact on how youthful and supple your face and body look.

But what do you actually know about it? Well, this blog is here to help. Here, we discuss everything you ever wanted to know about subdermal fat and how you can use it to your advantage. Read on to learn more.

What Is Subdermal Fat?

Subdermal fat is the layer of fat that sits directly below the skin. It’s part of the body’s way of plumping and fleshing out the face, and storing energy.

When you are young, subdermal fat tends to accumulate evenly in smooth layers. As you age, the distribution changes significantly, altering your appearance.

The Relationship Of Subdermal Fat To Beauty

The relationship between subdermal fat and beauty is strong. As people get older, the amount of adipose tissue around the cheeks and temples tends to decline, while it increases significantly in the neck and jowls. This process is one of the primary factors that cause people to look older. Their face shape changes.

That’s why many techniques designed to rejuvenate your face focus on this critical layer. Filler and even micro facelifts all attempt to restore lost fat volume, making your complexion appear fundamentally more youthful.

Unfortunately, as you age, the subdermal fat that made you beautiful when you were young starts to disappear. Over time, it loses its bulk, and you wind up with wrinkles and a more gaunt appearance (unless you are significantly overweight).

What Affects Subdermal Fat Thickness?

Fortunately, you can adopt various strategies to improve subdermal fat distribution across your body and face. Certain lifestyle interventions can have a tremendous impact on subdermal fat levels.

For instance, avoid nutrient deprivation. Starving yourself for long periods will reduce fat deposits under the skin, and they may struggle to recover.

Also, ensure you eat plenty of phytochemical-rich plants. These contain compounds that preserve the delicate fat balance under the skin and ensure it remains more youthful.

Another thing you can do is avoid going out in the sun too often. Too much exposure can dramatically increase damage to your skin and deeper dermal layers, causing fat deposits to thin. Have a good skincare routine has also proven to be helpful. Always remember to wear your SPF even if the sun isn’t out.

Subdermal Fat Treatments

If lifestyle factors aren’t working for you, you can try other approaches. For instance, many clinics now offer fat transfusions. Here, surgeons harvest fat from one part of your body where you have enough and put it in other places where you lack sufficient adiposity to make yourself look youthful. For instance, they might take fat from the thighs and inject it into the cheeks.

Many clinics also now offer micro facelifts, as mentioned above. These essentially provide many of the benefits of a facelift but without the invasiveness of a full-blown procedure.

These treatments will usually last a year or more, and they can enhance lifestyle-related efforts you make.

At the end of the day, you deserve to look and feel your best! Do what makes you happy!

Let's Celebrate National Lipstick Day | July 29

Juvia's place lip gloss and liquid blushes

Beauty lovers rejoice, #NationalLipstickDay is on the way!

National Lipstick Day is celebrated on July 29th every year. It is a day to celebrate the beauty and power of lipstick. Lipstick is one of my favorite makeup products. Grabbing a bright and bold lip color always makes me feel better when I'm feeling blue.

It is available in a variety of colors, finishes, and brands. Lipstick can be used to enhance the natural beauty of the lips or to create a more dramatic look. As black women, we’ve always been told to shy away from bright or nude lipsticks because they wouldn’t look great on our skin, but wrong! With a bit of lipliner, anything is possible!

For centuries, lipstick has been used by women all over the world. It is a symbol of femininity and confidence. Lipstick can make you feel beautiful and powerful. It can also be a way to express your personality.

There are many different ways to wear lipstick. You can apply it with a brush, a wand, or your fingers. You can wear it alone, or with other makeup. You can wear it for everyday wear, or for special occasions. It’s totally up to you!

Here are some of my favorite lipsticks in my collection.

Ruby Woo by MAC

It’s a classic, a vivid matte blue-red, paired with the same or their iconic Chestnut lip liner will be a hit every time!

Ashton liquid lipstick

Ashton by Anastasia Beverly Hills

Neutral Brown Liquid Lipstick - I fell in love with this color when I got my makeup done, it was the perfect nude brown on my skin! Gorgeous!

She’s Royal by Juiva’s Place

It’s a gloss, but so pretty that it makes the cut! This pretty plum color is divine and will compliment a variety of skin tones!

Lipstick Fun Facts

  • The first lipstick was made from beeswax and crushed insects.

  • Cleopatra was known for her love of lipstick. She used a mixture of red ochre, beeswax, and honey to color her lips.

  • In the Victorian era, women were not allowed to wear lipstick in public. It was considered to be a sign of prostitution.

  • During World War II, lipstick was rationed in the United States. Women were only allowed to purchase one tube of lipstick per month.

  • Today, there are over 3,000 different shades of lipstick available on the market.

So on National Lipstick Day, don't forget to put on your favorite lipstick and celebrate the beauty of your lips!

Natural Hair Journey Starter Kit

Going natural has been one of the best decisions I’ve made. This time around feels different because I’ve taken the time to learn what works best for my hair. As I was searching for how to start my journey, I found myself grasping at bits and pieces of how to put together a natural hair care routine, but it didn’t come.

So, I’ve decided to put together a list of things that are essential for your natural hair journey.

Detangling Brush - A detangling brush is extremely necessary when dealing with your natural hair. The flexibility of the bristles allow for less breakage, damage, and pain. Leaving your hair tangled can mattify it, causing even more issues. I personally love this one: Detangling Brush; it is also good for exfoliating/stimulating your scalp which promotes hair growth and healthier hair.

Wide tooth comb - I love wide tooth combs because they are great for larger sections of hair. You don’t have to cause yourself all that headache trying to get all your knots out using a finer comb because this one will do just the trick. The spaces between the teeth allow for the hair to flow easier which is always good for our natural hair. It is also less abrasive on the scalp, and the wider teeth help to stimulate blood flow which naturally will boost the health of your hair.

Scrunchies - Yes, scrunchies. I know I’m bringing it back but seriously.. Scrunchies are perfect when you don’t want something too tight on your hair. Specifically silk scrunchies will be gentler on dry, damaged hair compared to normal hair ties. They reduce the amount of friction against your hair which will prevent breakage. You can get scrunchies almost anywhere these days, but here are some of my faves: Silk Scrunchies

Hair Clips - Hair clips are needed when styling or sectioning your hair. It’s always hard for me to try and do something without them because nothing comes out quite right. It’s best just to not struggle, and buy yourself a little pack of hair clips, sis. I’ve been loving alligator clips, they are super cute as well and come in many different colors. Here’s a pack that I’m currently using from Amazon: Alligator Clips

Continuous Spray bottles- All natural hair girls know that you can NOT comb your hair without it being wet. For me, regular spray bottles would always be a go-to, but with all the jamming and how long it would take to get my hair wet, I had to try something different. I tried continuous spray bottles, and they are PERFECT. It doesn’t take forever to get my hair wet, and you don’t have to worry about the nozzle messing up.

Silk Bonnet - if you know, you know! Bonnets, scarves, you gotta have them. Your hair needs protection while you sleep. A silk pillowcase is excellent for those nights when you wildly sleep, and your bonnet escapes.

Next, you’ll need to find great products; now, this will be tricky, but paying attention to what your hair likes and dislikes will be a start. I started with PATTERN’s starter kit and really enjoyed it. Their line offers a variety of products that are based on your hair/curl type.

My 2023 Summer Essentials | Beauty Favorites

How is it Summer already? It feels like we were just enjoying Spring Break, but I love the warm weather and being able to enjoy wearing a little less. This year, I decided to share my summer essentials with you all because I have been reaching for these goodies for a few weeks, and I can’t keep them to myself.

Bodycare

Saltair Body Wash and Serum Deodorant

I’m new to the Saltair hype, but the body wash and deodorant have proven to be amazing!  I have the Pink Beach and Santal Bloom scents. Pink Beach reminds of a semi-coconut vanilla fragrance with hints of almond, while Santal Bloom is more of a creamy sandalwood amber. The body wash has a nice lather and doesn’t strip the skin.

While the serum deodorant is currently out of stock (6/26/23) I’m hopeful you’ll be able to get your hands on it soon. Look out for restocks. I have to be extremely careful with what I use under my arms due to a medical condition, and my skin wasn’t irritated.

Osea Malibu Body Balm

I have never used a product like this and now I don’t think I’ll be able to live without it! Think serum for your body. After a good dry brushing session or exfoliation then hydrating your with this balm, your skin will feel pampered!

Ouai St. Barts Collection

The Ouai St. Barts Collection has recently become a fave/summer essential for me. The body butter has a fantastic scent that makes your skin feel velvety and smooth. Using it alone is good, but with the body wash and scrub, it’s even better with a longer-lasting smell. The body wash is very hydrating and doesn’t leave a residue, and the scrub is unlike any other I've used. It’s very nourishing and makes my skin feel softer than ever.

Makeup

Ami Cole Lip Oil

The Ami Cole Lip Oils have to be the best lip oils I’ve tried, and the colors “Bliss” and “Excellence” are perfect for the summer. These lip oils are nourishing and not overly sticky, with a beautiful tint. Bliss is more of a nude pink brown, while Excellence is a buttery coco brown. Definitely a must-have!

Skincare

D-Bronzi™ Anti-Pollution Bronzing Drops with Peptides

I have seen all the hype on social media, but I wasn’t sure I’d like them.  I didn’t know if it would work for my skin tone, but they are great for a beautiful glowy look. An added bonus, it evens out my skin without being too dark or light! It adds the right amount of shimmer without making me look like a glitter ball or greasy, which is great for my combination skin.

Supergoop GlowScreen or Unseen Sunscreen

The Supergoop Glowscreen and Unseen Sunscreen are great for the summer because they don’t leave a white cast. Glowscreen gives you a nice shimmering glow, and Unseen Sunscreen gives you a great natural finish that works wonderfully under makeup.

Tower 28 S.O.S Daily Rescue Spray

The SOS Daily Rescue Spray can be used in two ways, as a toner or rescue spray when you need it. I wish I had this when I found my skin irritated a few months ago.

This spray makes my skin feel super refreshed and has worked wonders for me when my skin has been burning and peeling from the heat. It doesn't have a scent that is great for anyone sensitive to smell, and it doesn’t dry out my skin.

Press On Nails

I’m a press-on nail girl, it’s been years since I’ve been to the nail salon, and I’ve learned how to master making my nails last. Kiss and Salon Perfect have some of the best press on nails! They are firm; with the right glue and prep, you can have a full set for under $20.

The 7 Vitues CocoSun Perfume

Smelling good is a must, but I also must be aware of wearing overpowering scents when I go to work to avoid triggering others’ allergies. This fragrance is a crowd-pleaser and smells like summer!

Check out my summer fragrance lineup here if you’re looking for more suggestions!

Wellness

Pill Organizer

As a person that doesn’t enjoy taking her meds, I have to keep something to keep me accountable. I fill my organizer every 2 weeks and keep it in my purse. It’s proven helpful because when I need it, it’s there.

Olly Probiotic + Prebiotic

I deal with a lot of bloating and found that adding a probiotic could be helpful. Since I don’t particularly appreciate taking pills, a gummy seemed to be a great alternative. I’ve been taking these for about 3 months and can tell the difference!

Stanley Tumblers

I’ve had plenty of cups, tumblers, and water bottles to keep your water cold, but nothing works like the Stanley cups. Even after a day, my ice remains, and my drinks are still cold. There’s a variety of colors to choose from, along with sizes. This cup motivates me to drink more water, which is important in this summer heat. The 40oz is the perfect fit for me. I have a 30 oz too, but I feel I’m refilling it too often.

Tote Bags

Right now, I’m using my Marc Jacobs Tote in Leather, but I’m considering grabbing the cloth one. I enjoy carrying my iPad, phone, journal, makeup bag, and book.

You can find tote bags anywhere and in all different forms. They fit everything you need for a beach day, and they’re the perfect type of bag to store all of these summer essentials.

What are your must-haves for summer?
