The Middleton's Take Savannah

Do you ever feel like you get in your own way? Oh, just me?! Surely not, we all do it!

Originally, I did not want to go anywhere after the wedding. My thoughts were that we are already risking it all just to have a wedding during a pandemic, so how in the world are we possibly going to ALSO enjoy a honeymoon during COVID? I’ve always imagined that I would be somewhere tropical for my honeymoon and wearing next to nothing being a total HOT WIFE but the survey said otherwise.

I’m so glad I listened to my husband because he was right! We needed the escape even if just a few days. We deserved to celebrate and reflect on what just happened and while I still don’t remember all of the details of our wedding day, I know it was important that we had the opportunity to enjoy each other.

We ventured just 2.5 hours away to Savannah, Georgia and it was perfect because we were able to drive. It gave us a chance to laugh, talk, and explore the open road together. Savannah is a beautiful city! I’ve only been once to walk through the nightlife, so I don’t think that counts.

 Lodging

We stayed at The DeSoto Savannah. It is in a nice location, aesthetically pleasing and the atmosphere is gorgeous! I would rate the rooms a 4 out of 5. It appears they’ve completed SOME upgrades but it hasn’t been completed . We would have enjoyed an upgraded TV. The bed was incredibly comfortable and the bathroom was really nice - no complaints there. There are two restaurants located in the hotel; Proof & Provision where we enjoyed delicious drinks and the 1540 Room, which wasn’t our style of food so we skipped the opportunity to try it out. The staff was incredibly nice and made sure that we had a great stay. The rooms are more on the expensive side for what you are actually getting though.

Dining

We are food lovers and a great atmosphere will win us over. We spared no expense to enjoy good food! Our first stop was to Tubby’s Seafood River Street! We found this place after aimlessly walking around for an hour. We were hungry, ready to eat and get in bed. We sat outside on the rooftop and it was so nice. The weather was great and we could see the water and boats (totally my jam)! I had the fried shrimp basket and Cleveland had a seafood boil which was very tasty. We had the calamari for an appetizer, which was just okay and listen, we love good calamari. Their dish was filled with a lot of fried peppers and for the price I needed more meat! Our waiter was really nice with obliging our request and got us another order, which we greatly appreciated.

Mirabelle Cafe Savannah, Ga

After much searching on Yelp, we found a cute breakfast/brunch spot that was a few blocks from the hotel. Mirabelle Cafe is a really nice way to grab something light and filling. I opted for the grilled cheese with bacon and Cleve got the club sandwich. They currently have outdoor seating which is perfect since the space is kept clean and there are speakers outdoors to hear when your order is called.

I stumbled upon The Europium Kitchen and Wine Market during our walk the previous day and knew I wanted to go back. The décor from the outside looked so pretty and the charcuterie board sign at the door really caught my eye. I thought we were going to be able to do a wine tasting with our charcuterie board but that wasn’t an option so we did it ourselves. We tried a few wines and ate. It was a great experience especially since there were not a lot of people in the restaurant. We plan to find a place in the future that offers a wine and cheese tasting, so if you know any let us know!

We were in the mood for a nice dinner and Ruth’s Chris Steak House was the perfect place for this. Our server was awesome! He helped us pick out the best selections and even treated us to a wedding cheesecake! This was our first time here and I can say it lived up to the hype. We were served some of the best steak we’ve ever tasted! This is now on our date night list!

Attractions

I wanted to do something fun so the Riverboat Tour was right up my alley. As much as I love the water, I have never been on a boat, crazy right? The tour was 1.5 hours and they provided a lot of history. I would have rather done a dinner cruise but this worked just fine. I was able to learn a little more about Savannah and enjoy good food. Your meal is not included with your tickets. We spent around $100 for two people including tickets and lunch. It was a nice way to end our vacation.

Overall, I am so happy that we went somewhere after the wedding. We needed the chance to be “married” and enjoy it. Our plan is to start planning small trips more often, so I can’t wait to see where we venture next.
