Exploring South Carolina: A Day Trip to Isle of Palms

Tips.png

I have always been a fan of day trips. I think that we don’t know much about our state or city unless we are intentional with exploring it. Lately, I’ve been making it my business for my girls to see what their state has to offer!

Being born and raised in South Carolina, I have yet to see it in all of its beauty but one of my go to spots for a quick getaway is Isle of Palms. It’s located just 12 miles from the Downton Historic District of Charleston. It offers both residential and a resort style community!  They have great restaurants right on the beach. My personal favorite is Coconut Joe’s! Their fried shrimp is AMAZING!

I like to go to the beach early – for many reasons. The early bird gets the worm or in this case the best spot on the beach! Arriving early means less people! The beach opens around 6:00 am (sunrise) and most people that are out that early are the joggers and dog walkers. The temperature is usually cooler first thing in the morning too so you don’t get extremely sweaty at the beginning of your day. My game plan is to leave by 12:00 pm – 1:00 pm and my children will have enjoyed a full day and sleep well later! #MomWin

Helpful Tips:

Parking $2.00/hr – 8:00 am – 6:00 pm

Beach Chair & Umbrella Rentals

This trip, we arrived to the beach around 9:30 am and decided to rent an umbrella! Great decision although it was an overcast type of day. The next time I go I will plan ahead and rent chairs and an umbrella for more space!

I packed water, beach toys, and snacks. We left around 12:30 pm due to the rain but we were still able to have a great time. Clayton was able to experience his first beach day! I also brought back up aka my mom. I always need an extra set of hands. Having another adult allows me to play with the girls freely which is always a plus for them.

If you’re ever in Charleston, SC make sure you visit the beach! It is truly a favorite!
